Hansen’s Disease and mental illnesses have allowed historians to analyze several major issues. Instead of the development of medicine by itself, nor of the experience of the patients, the relationship between the doctor (and other nursing staff) and the patients was important. Doctors and the patients were also affected by wider issues. Musical therapy incorporated the interests of both side; the family and the communities of the patients were crucial; science and technology was important for the doctors. As for tuberculosis, this project has so far failed to find rich patients’ records. We shall think about how to get an archive for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

Thorough elucidating the depth and thickness of historical sociology, we have examined the diverse forms of its actual appearance and the unique qualities of their methodology. We attempted to establish the foundation of arts education as common milieu in which researchers will learn the method to unearth the obscure historicity in their own research targets. This common milieu would involve organizing archives or databases, editing the handbook, and investigating the space of the text written by the pioneer scholar. It is a part of our achievement that the books entitled “Lectures and Essays in Cultural Resource Studies,” focusing the main categories and things, “The Birth of Yusuke Maki: A Comparative historical sociology of Human Liberation,” discussing the possibility of the theory of quality of data, and two volumes of “Deciphering Force of Society,” showing wide scope of cultural historical sociology.

We published nine English-written papers based on social constructionist approach on March, 2020. A wide range of topics such as low birthrates, “Kinen”(ban on smoking), trauma, drug-induced sufferings, mental illness, rural migration, child-parent relationships “SHAKAIJIN” category, and teaching social constructionism, was included in the papers. The constructionist analysis was based on two methods.
One is a historical approach which, based on newspapers and/or the Diet records, investigates how and why claimsmaking activities or discourses on social problems were constructed and transformed. The other is an interactive approach, based on interviews and observations, which observes how a certain types of reality and narratives were constructed and shared among people.

The goal of our research group was to explore what kind of social change did the Japanese regard the Great East Japan Earthquake as.
According to this research purpose, we conducted 2 social survey using two-stage stratified random sampling procedure. Survey area are Nationwide (sample size is 2000) and disaster-area (sample size is 600; location is Miyagi Prefecture, Fukushima and Iwate prefectures). This questionnaire involved political opinion, social network, social stratification, religion, attitudes toward recovery policy and social policy, anxious about food safety, and altruism such as voluntary activity and donation. Additionally, we conducted fieldwork in the cities of Ishinomaki, Onagawa, Kamaishi, Otsuchi.
This research provided us theoritical findings concerning the structure of social consciousness in the aftermath of this disaster.

The aim of this project is to re-evaluate the previous use of methods in sociological research in Japan, and to propose a new methodological framework.
The traditional approach to sociological research in Japan often merely involved compiling a body of theoretical knowledge concerning modern society, whilst the role of actual empirical observation (for example through fieldwork and questionnaire surveys etc.) was usually neglected.
This study proposes the application of a broader theoretical framework, which also includes current issues in sociological research (for example referencing concepts such as "materiality," "space," "media" etc.). Furthermore, it advocates the development of a practical methodological framework, for example using digitalization, statistics and visual aids in processing and representing data. These frameworks will contribute to both research and educational methods.
